Port Vell

Port Vell, Barcelona

Port Vell, Barcelona.

Barcelona’s Port Vell (Old Port) located at the botttom of La Rambla behind Columbus Monument is one of the most pleasant areas in central Barcelona for a leisurely stroll by the seaside. When we visited on a Sunday afternoon it was flooded with tourists and locals soaking up pleasantly warm April's sun and admiring dozens of sailing boats docked in the marina. We liked the slightly slanting wooden deck which gives an illusion of natural rather than man-made landscape.

A wooden footbridge leads to Maremagnum, the shopping and leisure complex with several noteworthy sights. We haven't visited any of them as we decided to enjoy the sun instead, but depending on your interests (and the weather) you might consider visiting the following:

Aquarium de Barcelona

The Aquarium de Barcelona is one of the largest aquariums in the world where you can walk through an 80-metre glass tunnel under the oceanarium, which gives you a feeling as you would have been diving among sharks and more than 8.000 fishes.

Location: Moll d’Espanya del Port Vell, s/n – 08039 Barcelona. Official website: www.aquariumbcn.com

IMAX cinema

Barcelona's IMAX cinema has three projection systems: Imax, Omnimax and 3D. The screen is 27 metres high!

Location: Moll d’Espanya, s/n – 08039 Barcelona. Official website: www.imaxportvell.com
