Park Güell

Park Güell, Barcelona

Park Güell, Barcelona.

Once you get enough of crowds in downtown Barcelona, you should visit Park Güell. The park was designed by – who else? – Gaudí in an attempt to create a British style 'garden city'. Hypostyle hall, the central attraction of the park with a large terrace on top offering good views of the city, some interesting mosaic work and two cute 'cake houses' nearby do get pretty busy, but since the park stretches over 20 hectares you can always escape the crowds.

Guidebooks will tell you that in order to get to the park, you can take metro to either Lesseps or Vallcarca stop. In our opinion alighting at Vallcarca is a better option. First of all, it is nearer to the park and second, you don’t need to make a steep climb up the hill on foot as there is a series of escalators which take you virtually to the park's entrance. Simply follow the signs from the metro stop.

Once in Park Güell you can first climb up to the vista point offering spectacular views of La Rambla and Sagrada Familia, then descend to the more popular area of the park, the hypostyle hall. From there, you can walk downhill to Lesseps metro stop.

Location: Olot, s/n. Metro: Lesseps and Vallcarca.
