Barcelona hotels - free reservation
Being such a popular tourist destination, Barcelona is dotted with hundreds of hotels of all categories: from budget 'hostals' with shared bathrooms to luxury five-star properties. Hotels in Barcelona are not exactly cheap. Really good deals are hard to come by even during low tourist season, as Barcelona receives a great share of business travellers too.
Expect to pay at least 70 EUR for an acceptable double room with attached bathroom or at least 50 EUR if you are OK with taking a shower down the hall.
Three-star hotels in Barcelona will cost you 80 EUR and up, four-star hotels in Barcelona 100 EUR and up, five-star hotels in Barcelona 200 EUR and up.
Due to stiff competition among three- and four-star hotels, the latter would sometimes slash prices below three-star rates. Staying at a four-star hotel would in this case represent far better value for money. Check our Barcelona hotel reservations for latest deals.
Hostal Putxet
We tried out Hostal Putxet, four metro stops away from the city centre. The hostal was OK for the price. Our room was small but clean, with attached bathroom. The walls however are paper thin so we could hear all the sounds from neighbouring rooms, thus we wouldn't recommend Hostal Putxet to light sleepers. Also, if we visit Barcelona again, we might consider forking out a few extra Euros and stay in the centre - it's more convenient to be nearer to the sights and restaurants.
Hotel Guillermo Tell ***
Hotel Guillermo Tell is a pleasant 3-star hotel in Gracia quarter of Barcelona. We stayed at hotel Guillermo Tell in March 2011.
The trip by train/metro to Guillermo Tell from Barcelona airport took just over an hour and required changing lines at Sants Estacio (airport train to metro line 5) and Diagonal (metro line 5 to S6). Hotel Guillermo Tell is located about 50 metres from Sant Gervasi/Plaça Molina station.
The reception staffs were friendly and efficient. We arrived at the hotel before official check-in time (12 noon) but our room was ready.
Rooms at hotel Guillermo Tell are decent-sized, clean and nicely furnished. The bathrooms are quite large and fitted with a bathtub with shower, a hair-dryer and even a bidet, which is rather unusual for a 3-star hotel. Rooms come with a phone, a large LCD TV and free Internet access. Get the password from the reception. We were not thrilled about the fact that there is an extra charge (about € 4 per day) to use the in-room safe. In our opinion, that should be (and in most hotels is) free.
There are two types of breakfast served at hotel Guillermo Tell: continental and buffet. We booked a room without breakfast, which turned out to be the best option. Breakfast at hotel Guillermo Tell is relatively expensive and from what we have seen, not particularly exciting. On the other hand, there are many cafés, bakeries, restaurants and a supermarket within a minute walk from the hotel. There is also a small, traditional chocolate bar (xocolateria) a few doors away from the hotel, serving a popular local breakfast: churros (fried-dough pastry-based snacks) with hot chocolate.
Hotel Guillermo Tell is not smack in the centre of old Barcelona, but its location is convenient enough. Sant Gervasi/Plaça Molina metro station is about 50 metres away with frequent trains to Catalunya (which is the station on top of the famous Las Ramblas). Alternatively, trains from Fontana metro stop, which is approximately 600 metres from the hotel, take you to Passeing de Gracia (a convenient stop for Gaudi's houses) and Liceu (convenient for Gothic Quarter) all the way to Port Vell. If you are energetic enough, you can easily walk from the hotel to Park Güell. We even managed to walk all the way to Passeig de Gracia.
Based on our experience we can recommend hotel Guillermo Tell to both business and leisure travellers. It is located near metro stops and offers great deal of comfort at very reasonable price.
