Delifrance is a perfect resort for those whose stomachs can't get used to Asian breakfast. They sell fresh baguettes, crusty outside and moist inside, as well as crisp butter croissants. They also serve kaya croissant.

Häagen-Dazs makes one of the best ice-creams on the planet, so it is not surprising that it became an instant hit in Singapore as well. Try macadamia nut brittle and mango flavours.

Hotel Intercontinental bakery

Royal chocolate cake with hazelnut crusty base (and high quality chocolate) at Hotel Intercontinental above the Bugis MRT station is simply unforgettable. You won't go wrong with their other cakes either.

Potong

Red bean ice cream potong is the Asian version of ice cream, with coconut milk, of course. The best brand is King's, available at most supermarket at less than SGD 1 per stick.

Teck Kee Tang Lin Pau

Teck Kee Tang Lin Pau or more affectionately called Fatty pau after the chubby founder has been selling delicious Tau Sa Pau ( ) - sweet red bean paste wrapped in a steamed dumpling - since 1948. It's great for breakfast, tea break or supper and it only costs from SGD 0.70 per 'pau'.

Locations: stalls at Basement 1 of CK Tang building and Basement 1 of Isetan Orchard Shaw House. Both are within 5 minutes walk from Orchard MRT station.
