Le Bistro D'Agathe, Puerto Galera

Foie gras terrine and pickled onions at Le Bistro D'Agathe in Puerto Galera.

There is a dozen of restaurants at Puerto Galera port, offering average quality Filipino food, sandwiches and pizzas. There is only one place which really stands out of the crowd: Le Bistro D'Agathe.

Le Bistro D'Agathe

The prices at Le Bistro D'Agathe are about five times higher than in other restaurants in Puerto Galera, but culinary delights served at Le Bistro D'Agathe are worth every peso. Le Bistro D'Agathe is owned by a French Canadian from Motreal. He is trying to increase the quality of food offered at Puerto Galera and is doing an excellent job indeed.

Every morning Le Bistro D'Agathe offers freshly baked, delicious, buttery tasting croissants. The quality of butter they use is very high. There are butter and chocolate croissants available, as well as aromatic coffee.

We started our dinner at Le Bistro D'Agathe with an excellent foie gras terrine and pickled onions with home-baked bread. Terrine was served free of charge to all guests ordering any main dish for dinner. We continued with a huge portion of pasta a la Bolognese. The sauce was perfectly spiced and served with fresh basil and high quality parmesan cheese. We also tried Australian beef steak, which was by far the best we had in the Philippines. We were not impressed by chocolate cake though. It was a little bit on the dry side, with some artificial flavouring, but still above average. Perhaps we expected too much from dessert after being so thrilled about the starter and main.

We washed down our dinner with a glass of Spanish wine from Castilla. There are also Bordeaux wines on the wine list.

Service at Le Bistro D'Agathe was impeccable. We had a feeling like we dined in an upmarket restaurant in London or Paris. We were not surprised to find out that some travellers from Hong Kong were so thrilled about the restaurant that they actually returned to Puerto Galera just to eat there again.
