Cebu City is an important business and tourist centre in the Philippines, thus in Cebu there is a good selection of hotels of all categories.
We tried two hotels in Cebu City: the more expensive Alpa City Suites and the cheaper Mango Park hotel.
Alpa City Suites Hotel ***
Alpa City Suites Hotel is located in Mandaue City. There are no attractions around the hotel, so if you stay there, you have no other choice but to take a taxi to the centre. A taxi ride to Ayala shopping mall takes about 15 minutes in normal traffic. A taxi ride to central Cebu takes just under half an hour.
Alpa City Suites Hotel is a new, clean and very well presented hotel. Its bright, large rooms are equipped with a kitchenette and a fridge. Our room rate included buffet breakfast, which was not the best and the most lavish we ever had, but still acceptable. The staff at Alpa City Suites Hotel is very friendly. They provide (free) Internet access via LAN (cable) in the rooms. The hotel's restaurant serves expensive but good selection of international food, including delicious pastas.

Mango Park Hotel ***
Mango Park Hotel is a lot nearer to central Cebu Ciy than Alpa City Suites Hotel. Its rooms are not as nice and luxurious and the furniture is showing signs of aging, but beds are still comfortable enough. Mango Park Hotel provides (free) Wi-Fi Internet access in rooms. We only paid 23 € for a room with breakfast. The selection of food at buffet breakfast is limited, but somewhat tastier than at Alpa City Suites. There are in-room safes available but unfortunately they are not large enough to accommodate a 14" laptop.
We recommend Mango Park Hotel to travellers wishing to stay near the centre of Cebu City for a very good price, as long as they are not bothered by the old furniture. A word of caution: Mango Park Hotel is near Cebu City's red light district. If that puts you off, choose another hotel in Cebu.
