Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube, connected to Buda and Pest with Margaret bridge at the south and Arpád bridge at the north seems like a green oasis in the middle of the city. Once you get to the island you realise that it is not as tranquil as it seems to be from far, especially during warm months when it is overrun by locals trying to get away from hot streets of Budapest. They come to Margaret Island to laze around the parks, swim in swimming pools, run and cycle or lie half naked at the banks of the Danube soaking up the sun.
Margaret Island is worth visiting by day to see the parliament and the chain bridge from a different perspective.
Those looking for great party places should visit Margaret Island in the evening. Holdudvar is one of the most pleasant places to get a relaxing drink under the stars and if you like dancing Cha Cha Cha's parties continue into the wee hours of the morning. Note that both the places are only open during summer months.
Location: in the middle of the Danube between Buda and Pest. Transport: tram No. 4/6 (Margitsziget)
