Visitors to Budapest can choose from several hundreds of accommodation options - from barely adequate 1-star establishments at middle-floors of old, dilapidated buildings to swanky 5-star Budapest hotels at prime locations along the Danube and the most magnificent boulevards. Majority of the hotels in Budapest are located in or near the city centre, whereas some pensions are scattered around the suburbs - not very convenient if you don't have your own car.
Budapest hotel prices are still pretty reasonable, although they are slowly climbing towards the levels of hotel prices in other major European cities. Published 5-star Budapest hotel rates can reach 1000 EUR per night for a double room, but there are always heavy Internet discounts available - check our reservation system and get a 5-star hotel room in Budapest for less than 200 EUR or a 4-star hotel room in Budapest for less than 100 EUR.
At the bottom end of mid-range accommodation possibilities, expect to pay around 50 EUR for a double room with shower and (sometimes buffet) breakfast at a basic 2-star hotel or 3-star hotel in Budapest.
Make sure to book a hotel in Budapest well in advance of popular events, such as Budapest Spring Festival, Budapest Autumn Festival, Budapest Christmas Fair or Formula One Grand Prix.
Budapest hotel reviews
We personally stayed at and reviewed the following hotels in Budapest:
Atrium Fashion Hotel ****
Atrium Fashion Hotel is an excellent boutique 4-star hotel situated smack in the centre of Budapest, just a couple of minutes walk from Blaha Lujza square. Public transport connections from Blaha Lujza square are very good. All Budapest attractions, shopping areas and nightspots are accessible in minutes either by metro, tram or even on foot.
Atrium Fashion Hotel is housed in a nicely refurbished building. The interior courtyard of the building has been turned into a striking atrium where excellent (by Hungarian food standards) buffet breakfast is served. Check the gigantic pendulum and the clock on one of the atrium's walls.
Rooms at Atrium Fashion Hotel are accessible by a panoramic elevator offering nice views of the atrium. Very well appointed air-conditioned rooms feature modern and functional design, good quality beds, plenty of storage space, a safe, telephone, flat screen TV, minibar, coffee/tea making facilities and free Wi-Fi. Sparkling clean bathrooms come with toiletries and a hairdryer. Rooms at Atrium Fashion Hotel ate very quiet too. We did not hear any noise from other rooms or from the outside at all. Our room was on the fourth floor though, far away from breakfast area.
We highly recommend Atrium Fashion Hotel in Budapest both to business and leisure travellers as it offers a winning combination of location, comfort and price. Try booking 3 nights or more as Atrium Fashion Hotel Budapest often offers significantly better rates for longer stays.

Central Dominik Pension ***
Despite not being right in the centre of Budapest, Central Dominik Pension is still conveniently located in a quiet street off the famous Andrássy boulevard. The nearest metro station (Kodály körönd) is about 100 metres away. Vaci utca, Danube Corso, the Chain Bridge, Heroes' Square, City Park and Széchenyi Baths are just a short metro ride away. If you have more time on your hands you can easily reach the aforementioned attractions on foot.
Central Dominik Pension is in a renovated building but the construction quality isn't too good. We often heard what was going in the adjacent room and bathroom. Our room with a bathroom was furnished with a simple bed, small wardrobe and writing table. Rooms at Central Dominik Pension are supposed to come with air-conditioning (for extra payment), a phone and free wireless Internet connection. However, there was no air-conditioner installed in our room neither was there a phone. Internet connection signal was very weak. If you can't stand summer heat and need Internet for work, request for an air-conditioned room with strong wireless Internet signal when booking a room.
The only serious complaint about Central Dominik Pension goes to their buffet breakfast. Not only that choice is limited but the quality of food couldn't have been worse. Coffee tastes awful, they serve the cheapest (and worst) brand of yogurt, jam seems to contain only sugar, and fruit juice is completely artificial. Nevertheless, some of the guests were happily munching on Central Dominik Pension's breakfast.
Central Dominik Pension is still a very good value accommodation in Budapest, even if you skip their not so good breakfast and eat out instead. Room rates at Central Dominik Pension are normally much lower than room rates in similar hotels in Budapest. In short: rooms at Central Dominik Pension are good value for money, but forget about their breakfast.

Corvin Hotel ***
Corvin Hotel is a standard three-star hotel in Budapest. If you like to stay in centrally located hotels and walk, Corvin Hotel might not be the best choice as it is located slightly out of the centre of Budapest. The nearest metro station (Ferenc Körút on the blue line) is about 400 metres from the hotel and the nearest tram station (convenient lines 4 and 6) is approximately 200 metres from the hotel.
There are several small supermarkets (some of them open late) and fast-food kiosks (kebabs, burgers etc.) in the vicinity of the hotel.
Rooms at Corvin Hotel are reasonably sized, clean, well maintained and furnished enough to ensure a comfortable stay. When we visited Corvin Hotel there was wireless Internet in the rooms and a computer with Internet access next to the reception for guests to use for free.
Corvin Hotel is located in a quiet side-street. Despite staying in a front room we haven't noticed any noise at night.
The quality of buffet breakfast at Corvin Hotel is reasonable for Hungarian standards. There is a varied choice of bread, butter, jam, eggs, cheese, salami, müsli, yogurt and of course coffee, tea and juice.
We recommend Corvin Hotel to leisure and business travellers who would like to enjoy a standard 3-star comfort in Budapest and do not mind a 10-minutes metro or tram ride to get to the city centre.
Europa Centrepoint Guesthouse ***
If you are visiting Budapest on a low budged you do not necessarily need to settle for a dormitory or a guesthouse out of the centre. We recently discovered Europa Centerpoint Guesthouse and stayed there several times.
Europa Centerpoint Guesthouse is at a smashing location right in the centre of Budapest, just off Blaha Lujza square. This area of Budapest is known for the greatest concentration of bars and if you need to get elsewhere there are metro, tram and night bus stops at the hotel's doorstep.
Europa Centerpoint Guesthouse is not a standard hotel. It is housed in a Budapest residential building from the turn of the last century with a typical inner courtyard. The building itself is rather dilapidated but it gives a great glimpse into the real Budapest living. The rooms at Europa Centerpoint Guesthouse are scattered on three floors of the building. The rooms are rather small and not too functional but they have more facilities you would expect to get at such a cheap hotel. There's a fridge, working desk, LCD TV, free wireless Internet access and massaging showers in every room.
Europa Centerpoint Guesthouse is a great choice for curious and a little bit adventurous travellers looking for budget accommodation full of typical Budapest living character right in the centre of Budapest.
