Open air discos in Budapest

Open air discos in Budapest

Alcohol in Budapest is cheap...

Cha-Cha-Cha Terasz

Cha-Cha-Cha Terasz on Margaret Island is one of the best open-air discos in Budapest. The DJ is excellent, knowing very well how to create party atmosphere. Things usually get going after midnight in Cha-Cha-Cha.

In front of Cha-Cha-Cha is the famous Bodega kiosk serving above-average hamburgers for Budapest standard. Cha-Cha-Cha is open only during summer.

Location: Margaret Island. Transport: tram 4, 6 (Margit sziget).

Zöld Pardon

Zöld Pardon is open only during summer. It consists of several dance floors, bars and fast-food kiosks spread over a huge park on the right bank of the Danube. You enter Zöld Pardon through a gate which lets you in if you feed it with a 100 forints coin - the cheapest entrance fee in Budapest! The music in Zöld Pardon is usually good for dancing, but beware: average age of the patrons is probably less than 16 so if you think you will feel like an oldie give Zöld Pardon a skip.

Location: Buda XI, Goldmann György tér 6 (at the Buda side of Petőfi bridge). Transport: tram 4, 6 (Petőfi híd, budai hídfő). Web: www.zp.hu

Café del Rio

Café del Rio near Zöld Pardon is an open-air disco trying to attract older and more sophisticated crowd but is not doing it in a very successful way. We went to Café del Rio only once and found empty tables and a few snobbish Budapesters there. Based on our visit - not recommended! But you can give it a try.

Location: at the Buda side of Petőfi bridge. Transport: tram 4, 6 (Petőfi híd, budai hídfő). Web: www.rio.hu

Rudas Romkert

Rudas Romkert is a pleasant summer garden that transforms itself into a lively dancing place on summer evenings. It's in Buda, on the bank of the Danube next to Rudas baths.

We've been told that the owner of Rudas Romkert also owns an advertising agency, thus Rudas Romkert tends to be frequented by (quasi) creatives and (wannabe) your professionals. The music nevertheless is excellent, despite the DJ sucks. He doesn't have a clue about mixing so after a few attempts he just settles for playing one song after another. Considering his skills, this is the best option.

Location: Buda I, Döbrentei tér 9–11. Transport: bus 7 (Rudas fürdő).
