The Chain Bridge (Széchenyi lánchid), officially opened in 1849, is the oldest and probably the most beautiful bridge in Budapest. For photographers it is especially attractive at dusk when it gets lightened up with a string of lights. Fireworks fans will best enjoy the Chain Bridge on the 20th of August (St. Stephen's Day), which is one of the most important Hungarian national holidays with huge fireworks from the Chain Bridge and other Budapest's bridges in the evening.
There is a number of other sights around the Chain Bridge. On Roosevelt tér in front of the Chain Bridge in Pest you will find a statue of Count István Széchenyi who commissioned the construction of the bridge in 1820. On the northern end of the square is Hungarian Academy of Science founded by Count Széchenyi as well in 1825. Behind the statue of Széchenyi is the acacia tree supported by wooden polls. It is said to be the oldest tree in Budapest. The magnificent building on the eastern end of the square is now Four Seasons Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in Budapest.
