There is a great choice of hotels in Prague. Our Prague hotels booking system contains more than 400 hotels of all categories. The quality of Prague accommodation has improved considerably over the years. Nowadays, one- and two-star hotels in Prague are practically non-existent.
On the other hand, there are more than 40 five-star hotels in Prague while the stiffest competition is among three-star and four-star Prague hotels. The fact that there are almost 400 three- and four-star hotels in Prague means that they are always trying hard to attract guests. Thus there are always plenty of special hotel deals available in Prague.
In July and August, when congress tourism in Prague halts to a standstill, five-star hotels in Prague tend to drop their prices considerably. With a little bit of luck and smart planning you can get a five-star hotel room in Prague for a third of a normal price in summer.
Corinthia Prague Hotel *****
Corinthia Prague Hotel is one of the most luxurious five-star hotels in Prague. It is located on top of one of the hills in Prague, which means that the view from its rooms is spectacular. There is an indoor swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath, solarium and massage parlour on the 25th floor of the hotel.
We stayed at Corinthia Prague Hotel in August, paying a fraction of their usual room rate. Our package included a double room with buffet breakfast, panoramic view over Prague, guaranteed late check-out and free use of the pool - all for 70 € per night.
The rooms at Corinthia Prague Hotel are comfortable, clean and functionally furnished. There is a possibility to use Internet via a huge LCD TV for an extra fee. Wireless and wired in-room Internet access is provided too, although for a steep charge of 18 € for 24 hours - unless you book a business room where Internet access in included in price.
We expected a little bit more in terms of staff friendliness and small details which would make our stay at Corinthia Prague Hotel even more enjoyable. There were no slippers in the room and no cordless telephone (sitting on a bed while noting things down during a phone call isn't very comfortable). There was no shoe shine, the speaker in the bathroom did not work and water pressure could have been better. Nevertheless, these are small details which do not significantly impact our overall rating of Corinthia Prague Hotel. In general we were satisfied thus we can by all means recommend this hotel to demanding guests as well, especially if they manage to grab a room at special discounted rate.
Corinthia Prague Hotel is two metro stops from central Prague and three metro stops from Prague railway station. The hotel stands right next to Vyšehrad metro stop, which means that you can be in the centre of Prague in less than 10 minutes.

Hotel Sunflower ***
Descending to Hotel Sunflower from Corinthia Prague Hotel seemed like a journey from heaven to hell at first. Hotel Sunflower is located in an area of Prague characterised by dilapidated buildings housing Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants, small 24 hours casinos and suspiciously looking neighbourhood bars. Perhaps this is the reason for the prices at Hotel Sunflower being very low. We paid 31 € per night in August, at the height of summer tourist season.
Notwithstanding the statements above, Hotel Sunflower might not be the worst accommodation option in Prague. There is a tram stop 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Trams take you directly to the New Town, Old Town and even Hradčany. Transport connection between Hotel Sunflower and central Prague are good, even at night, albeit slower than the metro.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of Hotel Sunflower. Its simple but clean rooms are housed in a nicely renovated building. The receptionist was way friendlier than the staff at Corinthia Prague Hotel. There is free Wi-Fi in rooms. However, Hotel Sunflower is not a good choice for older or disabled travellers as there is no lift in the four-storey building.
Hotel Sunflower is a good choice for travellers seeking cheap accommodation in Prague who are prepared to take a 15 minutes tram ride into the city and do not mind staying in a slightly trashy area of Prague.
