Kemau Pasha

Kemau Pasha dessert from Djumayata sweet shop, Plovdiv.

Puldin

Puldin restaurant is located in the heart of Old Plovdiv, in the house built over the foundations of a Roman fort that can still be seen in the restaurant.

The restaurant has always been popular with Bulgarian political elite and foreign diplomats. Judging from the exterior Puldin seemed like a pricey place so we hesitated to enter for a second, thinking about the damage that a lunch at Puldin would do to our travel budget. But when we checked the menu we were pleasantly surprised. The prices in Puldin are not sky high.

The menu consists of traditional Bulgarian fare, fish and various vegetarian dishes. If it wouldn't have been raining we would certainly choose to sit in the nice patio.

We ordered sarmi, lamb ribs, Trakian grill, fried potatoes and garlic sauce. All the dishes were fresh, skilfully prepared and tasty. Service was as professional as we would expect at the place like Puldin.

Above mentioned dishes plus a glass of house red wine and a Bulgarian beer cost very reasonable 29 leva.

Djumayata sweet shop

Djumayata is the place in Plovdiv for oriental sweet lovers. They sell various kinds of baklavas and other sweet treats from the Middle East. Their Turkish coffee is good as well.

We made several stops at Djumayata during our exploration of Plovdiv. Among others we had baklava saralusa, Turkish coffee and a dessert named Kemau Pasha. There are several tables in front of the shop. An average price of desserts is less than 2 leva.

Location: Zhelezarska street 2. Open: 7:00-22:00.
