Many locals in Koprivshtitsa have a few spare rooms in their houses to rent. More business minded villagers even built extensions solely for tourists. During the main tourist seasons and on the weekends however accommodation in Koprivshtitsa still tends to be tight, so try to book in advance.

We arrived at Koprivshtitsa without a booking and after a little bit of searching ended up at Pension Dora. The owner wanted to charge 25 leva for a simple double room with a bathroom (no breakfast). We asked whether she could offer any discount and the price immediately dropped to 20 leva. Since it got unusually cold for June, we were especially happy about an electric heater hanging on the room's wall.

But when we returned to the pension late at night, we couldn't believe our eyes. There were only two empty screws left on the wall, the heater was gone! So for 20 leva the owner apparently didn't want us to use the electricity for heating (without telling us about it, of course). There were probably no more than 10 degrees Celsius in the room and it was very damp. But since it was so late and we didn't have a clue in which house to look for the owner (rooms for rent at Pension Dora are in the extension built from very low quality materials, which is also the reason for the room being so cold and damp) we gave in and crawled under the cold blankets. We did however turn on the heater in the bathroom which was impossible to remove, although the owner taped the switch hoping that we wouldn't find it.

It's been a long night. Luckily we gulped down that Bourgas 63 in the restaurant Pod starata krusha.
