Travel clothes

Always bring travel clothes that you can combine so that you can wear them on more than one occasion.

Bring several pieces of clothes which you can wear on top of each other rather than one heavy sweater. This enables you to adapt more easily to temperature changes.

Check weather forecast for your destination and pack accordingly.

Check and respect local customs. It is inappropriate for women to wear revealing attire in Islamic countries . Shorts and sandals are not acceptable for men in certain churches, temples, restaurants or government offices.

Fold clothes nicely and pack them tightly to prevent them from crumbling. Put them into plastic bags. Your luggage will be more organised in this way and the clothes will not get wet in case you are caught in rain and your backpack is not waterproof. Make sure to use uncoloured plastic bags, as coloured bags or bags with logos printed on them can leave nasty colour marks on your clothes in case they get wet.

If you are travelling to poor countries, consider bringing old clothes. After wearing them during the trip, don't throw them away. Give them to locals instead.

Travel clothes packing list

- underwear (the quantity depends on the length of your trip, but don't exaggerate – on longer trips you will need to do laundry as you go)
- socks
- clothes for sleeping
- long/short pants
- long-sleeved/short-sleeved shirts/T-shirts
- sweater
- swimsuit
- small towel (you will not need this if staying in expensive hotels)
- extra pair of shoes/sandals

Do not exaggerate as you can always buy clothes as you go. Besides, bringing too little clothes is an excellent excuse to indulge into some travel shopping.
